Just a few weeks ago we attended the national ride and drive event of the refreshed Volvo XC60. The brand’s best selling model of all time is now joined by an all-electric sibling, called the Volvo EX60, in the middle of its SUV range. The newcomer made its international debut this week. It slots in between the EX30 (review link here) and larger EX90 (launch report here) battery powered SUVs.
The new, all-electric EX60 changes the game in terms of range, charging and price and represents a new beginning for Volvo Cars and our customers. With this car, we remove all remaining obstacles for going electric. This fantastic new car is also a testament of what we are capable of at Volvo Cars, with an all-new product architecture introducing new key technologies – mega casting, cell-to-body and core computing

A New Era
As with many of the brand’s more recent offerings, the Volvo EX60 is quite a smart and modern-looking prospect. Gone are the days of boring old boxy wagons and sedans. The Scandinavian design principles are clear for all to see, modernised for the world of electric motoring. It boasts a low front, a sloping roofline and tapered body sides all in an effort to boost overall aerodynamic
In addition, the cabin of the EX60 features a minimalist aesthetic and natural, high-end materials to create a sense of calm.

Two Looks
The regular EX60 is immediately joined by a Cross Country variant. Volvo typically rolls out the latter option at a later date, but chose to show the two versions simultaneously. To differentiate itself the EX60 Cross Country comes with special wheels that are exclusive, and which hide under wider wheel arches. In addition it features ‘Cross Country’ script in the front and rear bumpers. Skid plates in brushed stainless steel at the front and back underline its more adventurous nature.
Powertrain Options
The EX60 is available with three different powertrain variants. The P12 AWD has a stonking 500 kW of power on tap from two motors. As a result it can blast from rest to 100 km/h in 3,9 seconds. In addition it has a range of up to 810 km, helping to reduce the ever present ‘range anxiety’ suffered by so many EV owners. P10 (375 kW) AWD versions offers up to 660 km while a rear-wheel-drive P6 (275 kW) variant delivers up to 620 km.
There’s no immediate news on a South African introduction date, but it won’t be long before the EX60 makes it way to Msanzi to join its battery powered stablemates.
