Exciting Cars of 2020 part one outlines new machinery heading to SA

There are many new vehicles heading to South Africa during the course of this year. Some will simply be revisions/facelifts of models we are already familiar with, others will be additional derivatives of existing model line-ups and a select few will be all-new for our market. While new cars are always exciting, we are looking forward to the arrival (and to driving) some more than others. Here, in no particular order, are our most exciting cars of 2020 part one, I’m pretty sure you’ll have the same reaction I had when I first looked at this, I immediately wanted to sell my car in order to get the BMW M2 CS, which is my favorite out of all of them.

BMW M2 CS

BMW South Africa will be hosting several new model launches this year. Among them are the BMW M8 Competition coupe and convertible, due early in the year. These will be followed by two more M models in the shape of the BMW X5/6 M Competition twins. The 2 Series Gran Coupe is an all-new nameplate for BMW. Of all the new models from Bavaria we are looking forward to the BMW M2 CS, which is one of the more exciting cars of 2020. With 331 kW of power the lightweight coupe should be a blast to pilot. Land Rover Defender

We, along with many others, didn’t think we’d see the day when Land Rover stopped producing its iconic Defender. Even more surprising was the fact that that they replaced it with a modern version. The new Land Rover Defender 110 will debut in South Africa just before mid-year. A short-wheelbase Defender 90 arrives shortly after. Local buyers can choose from two engines in the 110 version initially. The smaller is a 2,0-litre turbodiesel and other option is a 3,0-litre straight-six turbopetrol. All engines are mated with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and feature permanent all-wheel-drive system as standard.

Mini JCW GP

We have very fond memories of driving previous generation Mini JCW GP models. The most recent iteration of the hard-core Mini makes its way to SA shores this year, having made its international debut at the very end of 2019. Learn more about the 225 kW track-focused machine here.

Porsche Taycan

There are several new Porsche derivatives heading to SA in 2020. Among them are GT4 versions of the Cayman and Boxster, not to forget the 911 (992) Turbo. But the most newsworthy will be the Taycan. Porsche views the Taycan with utmost importance. The first all-electric series production Porsche will be on local sales charts before the year ends.
