Chery South Africa has been making significant strides in the local market. The company’s small crossover, the Tiggo 4 makes up the bulk of the monthly sales, but the Tiggo 7 is a strong contributor as well. A facelifted Chery Tiggo 7 has now been introduced to the South Africa market, with the intent of increasing sales of the mid-size SUV. At the same time, the local subsidiary has trimmed back the name from Tiggo 7 Pro, to simply Tiggo 7. In addition the range of non-hybrid options has been reduced.

New Appearance
The facelifted Chery Tiggo 7 has an altered appearance when compared to its predecessor. This latest version Tiggo 7 features a new, diamond-effect grille. Alongside the new central intake are standard LED headlights. These are the most obvious changes to the mid-size model.

Three Flavours
Chery SA has dropped the non-hybrid line-up to just three derivatives: Prime, Prestige and Legacy. The entry-level Prime is powered by a 1,5-litre turbocharged engine, similar to that found in the Tiggo 4. Power outputs are rated as 108 kW/210 N.m. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission is the sole option for the Prime. Standard items on the Prime inclide 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, dual 12,3-inch screens, automatic wipers, a rearview camera, keyless start, a tyre pressure monitors and three USB ports.
Stepping up into the Prestige brings with it a slightly larger engine, 1,6-litres, and additional power. Outputs are rated as 145 kW/290 N.m. In addition this engine has an additional cog in its dual-clutch transmission. The Legacy variant uses the same powertrain. In both cases power is sent to the front wheels. It seems that, for now, there is no all-wheel-drive version of the Tiggo 7. Prestige and Legacy derivatives have the same standard specification as the Prime, but all a whole host of other features to their list.
In Prestige trim buyers can expect 19-inch alloys, a 540-degree camera, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, blind spot detection, rear-cross traffic alert, door opening warning and multi-coloured ambient lighting. The Legacy adds to the list in the form of heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, electrically operated tailgate, and a premium audio system.
Pricing
Chery’s after-sales package for the Tiggo 7 includes a five-year/60 000 km service plan, a five-year/150 000 km warranty, and Chery’s 10-year/one-million km engine warranty (for first owner but can be transferred to a second owner if vehicle is purchased from a Cherished pre-owned dealership).
