Ford’s race derived Mustang GTD is no longer the most powerful Pony Car on sale today. That mantle has been passed to the Mustang RTR Spec 5, which made its debut this week. RTR, or Ready to Rock, was founded by pro-drifter and long-time Ford driver, Vaughn Gittin, Jr. The company usually works its special magic on Ford products and its latest is a limited-edition monster that outdoes the factory’s best effort.
Limited to just 50 units in the 2026 model year, the Spec 5 is our new halo production vehicle, delivering the apex of performance, style, and functionality while pushing the Mustang’s street performance further than ever before

A New Look
The Mustang RTR Spec 5 is based on the latest-gen Ford product. However, it has been significantly revamped. First up, and most noticeable is the wider body that the Spec 5 boasts. Each part has been made from lightweight carbon-fibre. These include front and rear fenders, and bespoke front bumper and boot lid with integrated lip spoiler. Under the wider fenders are 20-inch alloys shod with sticky rubber, which measure 315 mm at the rear. The wheels shroud Brembo brakes with multi-pot calipers front and rear. Spec 5 rides on fully adjustable coilovers.
More Power
More interestingly the Spec 5 also has loads more grunt to match its more aggro appearance. The 5,0-litre V8 is force fed by a Whipple supercharger. As a result it now produces 640 kW with peak torque near 900 N.m. That is a serious bump up from the standard car’s 358 kW and 567 N.m. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine features an intercooler and a Borla cat-back exhaust system. The best part is that it is covered by a three-year/58 000 km warranty. Oh, every car also comes with the factory electronic ‘Drift Brake’ to initiate slides – how cool.
