All-New Look
The Neue Klasse BMW i3 has several design cues that we first saw in its larger iX3 SUV sibling. Cues such as the BMW kidneys and twin headlights remain but have been reinterpreted for the modern age. An all-new light signature takes the role previously performed by chrome grille surrounds.
The rear end features taillights that extend well into the centre of the rear end. The i3 also has, what BMW describes, a 2.5 box (as opposed to 3 box) design. This is evident in a really short overhang. The latter is amplified by a wide stance and flared wheel arches.
Minimalist Interior
The interior has an uncluttered appearance that is led by the car’s digital experience. The cabin is all about driver focus, according to BMW. The ‘floating’ instrument panel flows directly into the large door cards. Fabric surfaces on the instrument panel contributes to a warm atmosphere inside.
Battery power
The Neue Klasse BMW i3 debuts in 50 xDrive guise. The BMW i3 50 xDrive is powered by two electric motors, which together generate output of 345 kW and 645 N.m of torque. The two motors provide all-wheel-drive. BMW has not make any performance claims as yet. The high-voltage battery in the BMW i3 50 xDrive has a high-voltage battery that offers a range of up to 900 km. Rapid charging stations to add up to 400 km of range in just ten minutes.
Internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid models will also be offered alongside the battery powered i3. The all-new model will go on sale in South Africa in the first quarter of 2027.
