As motoring becomes more high-tech, more efficient with electrified drivetrains and boasts more connectivity, purists and enthusiasts yearn for older cars. A restomod is loosely defined as a classic car that has been restored and modified with modern parts and build techniques to be better than the original product. Kalmar Porsche 797

Old 911s are often the starting point for restomods. We’ve previously run stories on the Theon Design 911, the Kaege retro 911 and best known of the breed, Singer. This restomod comes from an unlikely corner of the world, Denmark. It also comes with a very cool back story as it owes its origins to the winningest driver of all time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ferrari’s 308 is the car that created an entire generation of Ferrari fans. Teens all over the world lusted over the 308 as they watched it on the small screen as one of the stars of the Magnum PI TV series. By modern standards the 308 isn’t quite the performance car many of us believed it to be as budding petrolheads. Moto Technique aimed to change that with the creation of the 388 GTBi. Volvo P1800 Cyan
The Volvo P1800 Cyan is a restomod taken to the extreme. It is an indication of what happens when an OEM takes on the role of car restorer. Cyan was once the motorsport division of Volvo. The Swedish company has pivoted towards an interesting new direction, classic car reimagination. Italian company Totem has completely restored and given the iconic Alfa Romeo GT a new lease on life. The small coupe has been fitted with a lightweight, carbon-fibre body, new suspension layout and, most notably, an electric drivetrain. Canepa Porsche 959

The Porsche 959 has been overshadowed by its contemporary, the Ferrari F40 (read our driving review here) for most of its life. As with most limited-edition Porsches the 959 has skyrocketed in value over recent times. Porsche specialist Canepa has given the 959 a new lease of life with the Canepa Porsche 959.
