The history of BMW’s M division goes back to the 1970s. Since then the company has produced some of the finest driving machines the world has ever experienced. Many of them can be found in, what many regards as, the finest BMW M Collection in the world. Now, auction house RM Sotheby’s will be taking this incredible walk through BMW’s history back to Munich to sell each of the performance machines.

One of Each
This BMW M Collection was started rather recently, in 2014, with a single car. From then it quickly expanded to the full complement, as seen in the opening pic. As a result, it has grown into one of the most complete collections of M creations in the world. All the notable and collectible cars from the brand’s illustrious past are included.

Today, the collection features no fewer than 22 M-achines. All will go under the hammer on 18 October 2025. Included among them are the slinky M1 sportscar, a 2002 Turbo, a Z8 Roadster, a quirky Z1, coupe and roadster versions of the Z3 and Z4 M, and the recent M4 CSL. Additionally, there are examples from each generation of M3 including an E30 M3 Sport Evolution, an E36 M3 GT, an E46 CSL, a lightweight M3 CRT and an E92 M3 GTS.
