Not every car giveaway lands with people who actually care about cars. The BMW M240i does. It sits in a very specific sweet spot in BMW’s line-up: quick enough to feel properly special, premium enough to feel aspirational, and still usable enough to make sense in the real world. In South Africa, that matters, because fast compact BMWs with six-cylinder power have always carried more weight than the numbers on a spec sheet.
That is really where the M240i’s appeal comes from. It is not the full M2, and that is exactly the point. It gives buyers a lot of the BMW performance-coupé magic without going all the way into hard-edged M-car territory. You still get the straight-six engine, the compact proportions and the sense that this is a driver’s car first. For BMW fans, that formula has always had pull. It is the kind of car that feels fast, looks right and still carries some of that old-school BMW allure into the modern market.
It also fits the South African market neatly. The M240i feels like the modern version of a formula that has always worked here: enough luxury to feel premium, enough performance to feel exciting, and enough badge credibility to turn heads before the engine has even cleared its throat. It is a spiritual successor to legendary BMW models such as the 325is and 333i.
That makes it a clever prize for Goldrush’s “Live in the Ride. Win the Ride” campaign. Entries are open from 8 to 17 April 2026 (18:00 SA time), after which the field will be narrowed through voting and eliminations. From there, the competition moves into a live endurance-style event at Hillcrest Corner in KZN from 1 to 10 May, with the final contestants battling it out until one person is left standing, and left in the BMW.
That is why this campaign has more pull than a standard giveaway. The format brings the public drama, but the M240i gives it appeal. Goldrush is not asking people to get excited about a generic prize. It has built the competition around a car that already means something to South African enthusiasts.
