Guangzhou Auto Corporation (GAC) is one of the lesser-known Chinese brands in the South African context. The company offers just two models on the local listings. However, the automakers has loads of interesting models in its home market. The halo is undoubtedly the GAC Hyptec SSR, which has now starred in its own wild drift video.

EV Power
The star of this video is the GAC Hyptec SSR Ultimate version. As a result it features all-wheel-drive and boasts 913 kW. The company says the AWD derivative can sprint from 0-96 km/h (60 mph) in 1,9 seconds. As part of its antics in the Canton Drift the GAC Hyptec SSR set a new Guinness World Record. It achieved the highest drift speed for a pure electric vehicle at 213,523 km/h.

Nod to Heroes
The video is a new-age take on the smoke-filled antics of the late Ken Block. This 11-min shred has a few nods to the world of drifting. The include the theme tune from Tokyo Drift including tandem sideways action up the spiral driveway of a multi-level car park. In addition, there is a Toyota AE86. The RWD Hachiroku is credited with the popularity of drifiting, in part thanks to its role in the anime series Initial D.
