Wet Race

The MotoGP race weekend was punctuated by showers that drenched the Texas countryside. The weather was completely variable on race day. The opening, Moto3 event, was held in completely dry conditions. The Moto2 field shortly after raced in mixed conditions.

The top-flight MotoGP class was preparing for its race start when the BMW M5 Safety Car driver suffered an on-track incident. It seems as though the track was quite slippery as the twin-turbo V8 machine slid its way out of one of the tighter corners of the circuit. With a lack of grip it headed straight to the barriers and crashed heavily, as you can see in the video below. Eventually it had to taken away on a tow truck.
